A couple of months ago, I received an email:

“Hi! This is Mary. Are you the same Erika Tsang who attended Edward R. Murrow High School between the years of 19-- – 19-- [years withheld due to vanity]? If you are, and remember who I am, please contact me.”

I replied almost immediately:
“Mary! It’s been years! How on earth did you find me?”

Her answer:
“I was reading this book and your name was on the dedication page. So I googled you. I’m rather envious – you seem to be living the Sex and the City life.”

My sides are still smarting from the laughter because, 1) I can’t afford even cheap knock offs of Manolo Blahniks; 2) I still live in Brooklyn, and not the very fashionable part; and 3) Rather than club or bar openings, my last event was at the Museum of Television & Radio where they were screening the season finale of Battlestar Galactica and the cast and producers were on hand to do a Q&A session – which can technically be classified as “geeky” rather than “cool.”

Finally, I asked which book she saw my name in.

BUDDHA BABY,” Mary told me. “Sorry I’m not a hot guy like in the story.”

After this blast from the past, I started to wonder where my HS crush was... (Hey, Russell, give me a shout out if you’re reading!) Tell me, who would you like to hear from most from your past and why?

Speaking as a total entertainmentphile, that BSG event was a classic geeky/cool mix. Watching the fangurls and -boys was probably the best part. Well, that and the panel. Oh, and the episode viewing. OK, ok, the whole thing.

But, Erika, surely living in NY lets you take advantage of all sorts of fun events. Do tell...

OMG, Erika. This is soooo cool! Um... okay... I tend to check out the SciFi BBs so I knew this was coming up, but geez... you got go GO??? I'm so, so jealous. Love Jamie, but I don't know... maybe it's my age, but I have this weird thing for Bill Adama. (I'm even sorta naming a guy after him in my WIP.) That oh, so husky-quiet intensity... Yum. Okay, how's this for geeky: Off the top of my head--

"You can not play God and then wash your hands of the things that you've created. Sooner or later... the day comes... when you can't hide from the things that you've done anymore..."

I *AM* a fangirl... :)

Heh, people do have a lot of misconceptions regarding NYC. Cuz NYC is just full of Carrie Bradshaws and Mr. Bigs.

/anyway, just wanted to tell you that I like what you have done with the pink letters, there. And then I read this entry and it made me smile.

Omar. My college crush. He was from Lebanon originally and had the most beautiful black curls -- these were the 'big hair' days of the early 90s.

He was just a really nice guy and I'd like to know that life is treating him well.
